A surjective function, also known as a surjection or onto function, is a mathematical concept where every element of the function's codomain is the image of at least one element of its domain. The term was introduced by Nicolas Bourbaki, a pseudonym for a group of 20th-century French mathematicians. Surjective functions can be induced by any function restricting its codomain to the image of its domain, and they always have a right inverse assuming the axiom of choice.
