Free Speech

Freedom of speech

Freedom of speech is a principle that supports the right to express opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation, censorship or legal sanction. It is recognized as a human right in international law and many countries have constitutional laws protecting it. There are certain restrictions on free speech, such as libel, slander, obscenity, etc., which are justified by the harm principle. The digital age has brought new challenges to freedom of speech, such as the Golden Shield Project. The Human Rights Measurement Initiative measures the right to opinion and expression for countries around the world.
