Finite fields are sets of elements on which the operations of multiplication, addition, subtraction and division are defined. They are commonly given by the integers mod p when p is a prime number, and their order is either a prime number or a prime power. Finite fields are used in many areas of mathematics and computer science, such as number theory, algebraic geometry, Galois theory, finite geometry, cryptography and coding theory.
