Inference is the process of drawing logical conclusions from premises. It is traditionally divided into deduction and induction, with a third type (abduction) sometimes distinguished. Various fields study how inference is done in practice, including logic, argumentation studies, cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence, and statistical inference.
