A dynamic programming language is a high-level language that performs common programming behaviors at runtime, such as extending the program, modifying objects and definitions, or changing the type system. These languages provide direct tools to make use of these behaviors, and many of these features were first implemented in Lisp. While most dynamic languages are dynamically typed, not all of them are, and they are often referred to as scripting languages.
