Bayous are bodies of water found in flat, low-lying areas in the Southern United States. They contain brackish water and are home to a variety of wildlife, including crawfish, shrimp, shellfish, catfish, frogs, and reptiles. Bayous are often anabranches of braided channels that are slower than the mainstem.
